8th of May is the International Day of Red Cross and Red Crescent. The Movement, whose idea was born 150 years ago, welcomes societies from all around the world and found its activities on 7 principles: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Volunteer work, Unity and Universality.

First Vet Expo in Damascus

The first edition of an international exhibition for veterinary products and livestock supplies opened in Damascus on April 6. Vet Expo 2011, sheds light on the latest methods of livestock care and the most important animal production and veterinary health requirements. The exhibition will run up to April 8 at Damascus Fairground.

Amal al-Ghad receives a donation from Japanese NGO

Mar 27 - Amal al-Ghad receives two buses as a donation from the Japanese NGO Jaika. The operation was co-ordinated by the Japanese embassy in Damascus.

IFRC starts a green project

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) started a new project on Mar 31, during the works of the Global Community Safety and Resilience Forum. 50 trees were planted in Harasta, North-East of Damascus, in different areas, which were given the names of the continents. The project started in Syria but will be extended to all the countries.

Mar 29 - The third Red Cross Red Crescent Oslo took place in Damascus hosted by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. The first Red Cross Red Crescent International Federation (IFRC)’s disaster risk reduction (DRR) meeting was held in Oslo in February 2009.

International School of Choueifat-Damascus celebrates 10 years

Mar 18 - The International School of Choueifat - Damascus celebrated 10 years operation with a gala dinner at Sheraton Hotel. The school, opened in Damascus in 2001, was the first private international school in Syria to be registered by the Ministry of Education.

Al Nada: Changing Askers to Givers

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (reported by UNDP) in Syria woman make up 49% of population and 45% of university students, however they represent less than 15% of the labour force. Al Nada association works to empower women to take part in the working life through vocational and training courses.
